Museum of Anton Makarenko is located in the village of Podvirky in Derhachivsky district of Kharkiv province near Kuryazh juvenile reformatory where it moved from Poltava reformatory named after Maksym Horky in 1926. Talented educator Anton Makarenko became the reformatory headmaster. Till July 1928 he was working in Kuryazh where he founded “household school” on the self-governing and profit-motivated base. The innovative educator described his experience of rehabilitating youth in his world-known work “The pedagogical poem”. The Museum of Anton Makarenko was founded in 1988 to the 100-anniversary of the outstanding educator’s birth. Among numerous exhibits the Museum introduces genuine flag of the reformatory named after Horky.
